February 18 – 20, 2022

Three days of glorious walking, from the dense urban core of the 7th largest city in the USA to nearby quiet trails that will make you think you have drifted back 300 years in time.

DISTANCES are 10km/5km (6.2mi/3.1mi) The walk goes through Wimberley’s downtown area and on walking trails along Cypress Creek.
WIMBERLEY is located in central Hays County in the heart of the Texas Hill Country. The center of Wimberley is situated at the confluence of Cypress Creek and the Blanco River, on the Edwards Plateau. It’s about 65 miles from San Antonio.

DISTANCES:The 10km walk goes along shaded city streets, through neighborhoods, a municipal golf course,  a park and historical sites. It follows the Guadalupe River and goes through the downtown square. The 5km walk is mostly in the downtown area.
SEGUIN, the county seat of Guadalupe County, was established in 1838 by members of Mathew Caldwell’s Gonzales Rangers and named for one of Sam Houston’s Lieutenants during the struggle for Texas’ independence.

DISTANCES: .Both the 5km and 10km routes are considered easy and are on city sidewalks, paved streets, and city trails.
STONE OAK is an upscale residential development in the far north of San Antonio,  originally carved out five ranches — 5,000 acres —  bounded by Camp Bullis, an army installation, on the west and rock quarries on the east. It was the first master planned community in San Antonio.

Some days in Texas it’s just too darn hot to walk. This walk is in the AIR-CONDITIONED North Star Mall. 4 laps is 10km, 2 laps is 5km.    The mall has about 200 shops, and a large food court. It’s about 2 miles from the San Antonio Airport. Registration is via the online walk box.

DISTANCES: 10km/5km (6.2mi/3.1mi)
SAN MARCOS — about 45 miles from San Antonio — was rated as on of the world’s top three shopping destinations by ABC’s “The View,” up there with New York City and Dubai. The walk takes you through the Tanger Outlets  and the adjacent Premium Outlets (whose architecture was modeled on Piazza San Marco in Venice.) There are hundreds of stores, restaurants, great bargains and to top it off, most of the walk is covered sidewalk.

Explore the Texas Insider Blog for our secrets about the best of the best places to see in San Antonio. Most of them are on the walk routes! You’ll be in town for the last three days of the Stock Show and Rodeo and you’ll have time to see The Saga, a world-class sound and light show projected onto the facade of San Fernando Cathedral. See you in February, 2020! (And watch the video . . .it’s GREAT!)
