Wimberley, Texas Year Round Walk
Distances are 10km/5km (6.2mi/3.1mi) Both routes are rated 1A. The walk goes through Wimberley’s downtown area and on walking trails along Cypress Creek.

Wimberley is located in central Hays County in the heart of the Texas Hill Country. The center of Wimberley is situated at the confluence of Cypress Creek and the Blanco River, roughly 1,000 feet above sea level on the Edwards Plateau.
in May, 2015 the Blanco River overran its banks. The heart of Wimberley was ravaged,12 people died, and 350 homes were destroyed when the river reached a historic level of 43 feet. The previous record flood for the Blanco was set in 1929, eight feet lower than where the river crested that Memorial Day weekend. Flood stage on the Blanco River is 13 feet. According to the National Weather Service, the river was flowing at a rate of 223,000 cubic feet per second, which is 2.5 times the flow of Niagara Falls. The water was so intense, it swept away an entire bridge. The city has recovered.
The walk will take you through Blue Hole Regional Park, 126 acres of natural forests and native grass fields just past the center of town. Shaded by cypress trees, the Blue Hole itself is one of the best loved natural swimming holes in Texas. Admission to the park is free, but you’ll need to pay $10 and make a reservation if you want to swim.
Wimberley is home to many artists and musicians, and you’ll see that reflected all over the town. There’s great shopping, great food and great music. On the first Saturdays, March through December, the Lion’s Club hosts Wimberley Market Days — 450 vendor booths! Admission to the market is free, but free parking might be hard to find on Market Days. Lion’s Field is 6/10 of a mile from the starting point (turn right out of the visitor’s bureau and when the road forks, bear left.) Dogs are not permitted in the market.
Getting There: Wimberley is about 45 miles northeast of San Antonio; 40 miles south of Austin, 240 miles south of Dallas,185 miles west of Houston and 1,800 miles southwest of New York City. Wimberley is about 16 miles northwest of the San Marcos I-35 exit 202 (FM 3407, Wonder World Drive.) You will only be able to turn one way onto Ranch Rd. 12 to get to the start point at the Wimberley Valley Chamber of Commerce, Convention Center and Visitors Bureau, 14100 Ranch Rd.12, Wimberley, TX 78676.
