To include the armed services at the festival, Susan Medlin, founder of the TTR, created the Golden Boot Award in 2020. Any military unit —active, reserve, guard, ROTC, or veteran —whose first five members complete the 42K marathon wins the Golden Boot Award, with their unit name engraved on a special trophy. Winners over the years include:  

• 2020: Belgian German Friendship Team
• 2021: No event due to Covid
• 2022: Viking Strollers
• 2023: Viking Strollers
• 2024: Viking Strollers
• 2025: CARMIL – Caribische Militairen

To enter for a chance to compete in the Golden Boot Award, you must:

1. Select that you are participating in the Golden Boot Award during your registration and put the name of your Military Team. A team must be comprised of 5 or more members for you to compete in the challenge. 
2. The Teams must compete in the 42k on Saturday.
3. The Team that has at least 5 of its members make it back first to the end, altogether, will win the Golden Boot Award. 
4. The award will be given out on Sunday during our Award Ceremony. Please make sure your whole team will be in attendance on Sunday. You do not have to do the walk on Sunday, but you are more than welcome to.
